What type of service does New Directions provide?
We provide two categories of care, Domiciliary and Live-In Care. Domiciliary Care is for clients who need occasional help throughout the day. Care Assistants will visit you for example for an hour, twice a day. Live-In Care is for clients who need continuous care for varying lengths of time and the care assistants will live with you in your own home or travel with you on holiday.
How much does it cost?
Obviously this will depend on the level of care that is required and a member of staff will be happy to give you an estimate.
How thoroughly are your staff trained?
The care staff we supply to you will have had training that meets the standard required by the Care Standards Act 2002. Most of our care staff will have qualifications that exceed these standards. We also supply the necessary updates and extra courses that equip our carers to undertake the type of care that they wish to specialise in.
Where do we recruit from?
We endeavour to recruit from the UK.
When we recruit from abroad we ensure that our carers have good English-speaking skills and a thorough knowledge of our culture.
We endeavour to recruit carers who have had some previous experience of dealing with vulnerable members of society. Generally, experience and the right caring attitude is more important than age.
Are the New Directions carers police-checked?
By law, healthcare workers in the UK must obtain a Criminal Records Bureau disclosure and Protection of Vulnerable Persons check before they are allowed to work unsupervised in the healthcare sector. New Directions are an Umbrella Body for the Criminal Records Bureau and one of the largest providers of this service in Wales. All of our carers will have had these checks before being introduced to a client.
How long does the care last for?
New Directions will be able to provide care throughout the year and the duration of any booking will depend upon your requirements.
Many of our clients have been receiving care through us for a number of years. We are of course happy to provide the same standard of care for just a few days if that is required.
What do the New Directions Carers do?
Our carers are there to help you with your needs whatever they may be. You may like someone to live with you to keep you company and to do general housework. Others may need more advanced care such as help with bathing and getting dressed.
After an initial assessment we will endeavour to match a suitable carer that can help with all your needs.
What do I do if things go wrong?
New Directions operates a 24 hour service giving you access to help whenever you need it. Our out of hours service is staffed by trained and knowledgeable individuals who will be able advise you. New Directions will provide you with a complaints procedure which will be given to you at the start of your care. The complaints procedure is simple to use and is a confidential process. New Directions continually monitors the work of all of our carers. We will keep in regular contact with you to make sure you are satisfied with your service.
